A hidden gem nestled in a quaint historic town with spectacular views

We were recently invited to join some friends at the Rabbit Hole in Harper’s Ferry, WV, located at 186 High Street. I was immediately intrigued and excited because it was a new restaurant to me and I enjoy going to Harper’s Ferry, although I don’t make it there often. However, that will be changing!

When we first arrived, we found a place to park by the train station. To get to the Rabbit Hole, we did have to walk up quite a few steps, which looked intimidating as I was holding a diaper bag and a 12-month-old! Once we started the trek up (and I gave my husband the baby), I began realizing what a treat we were in for. Although the weather was mild, the air had a small chill to it, but we opted to sit on the patio, and I’m so glad we did. Not only does the restaurant have movable heaters which we were able to use to keep warm, but the view of the mountains and train tracks was remarkable. We were even lucky enough to have a train travel through while we were there; something my son loved.

Why eat at the Rabbit Hole?

As we were sitting with our friends who are regulars there, they began raving about the food and giving us suggestions. If the food is as good as they say it is, I remember thinking that it makes sense that they are regulars. We enjoyed the views, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly servers while we reviewed the menu to pick our meals. We are so lucky to have such beautiful scenery right in our backyard and it’s great to find inviting and calm places to take it all in. I hadn’t even tried the food yet, but I was already sold. And to make it better, the food did not disappoint!

An exciting variety of specialty foods and drinks.

The first thing I noticed about the menu was the variety of food, even though the menu was not extensive. That tells me each dish is meticulously planned out and perfected.  The Rabbit Hole offers vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, keto, and traditional options. Some of their dishes are even infused with CBD!

To start, we ordered the Loaded Pork Fries, which included pecan smoked pork butt, white cheddar sauce, southwest ranch BBQ sauce, and green onions over a bed of French fries. The tastes all paired well together, specifically the BBQ sauce and the pork.

For my meal, I ordered the Crabless Crabcake Sandwich. Although I don’t each much meat, I am not a vegetarian, but I had to try this vegetarian option because the “crabcake” was made from one of my very favorite (and not common) things: artichokes. I grew up eating artichokes in many ways, but never as a substitute for crab. I opted for the sweet potato fries and took our server’s suggestion when he said to pair it with their avocado mash, something I would have never come up with on my own.  And I’m so glad I did. This is one of the most memorable meals I have ordered at a restaurant so far and I will be raving about it for a long time.

Other items our table ordered included the Blue Ridge Burger, the Wanderdown Cheesesteak, and the House Salad. I didn’t try the other meals because by the time I finished mine, I was too full, but there was no need for doggy bags because our plates were all cleared. By the end, I found myself grateful for that earlier walk up the stairs.
