It’s spring time, so that means it is officially socially acceptable to go get ice cream after dinner now! If you are in the Winchester area, there are plenty of options for ice cream, but one that has truly stood the test of time is the Dairy Corner at the I-81/Rt. 7 juncture. They are a local staple, and everyone in Winchester knows this is a great spot to go if you want a very affordable treat with plenty of unique and custom options.

In a world where prices are going up across the board, the Dairy Corner is still one of the best deals around. The prices are incredibly reasonable. We were able to get four desserts for under $20, and that included a custom sundae, a Rootbeer float, and two other ice creams. And even though the prices are low, the portions are not. They are very generous, whether it is with how much ice cream they give you or with toppings for the specialty items.

The Dairy Corner looks like a spot that has been around for many years. It is exactly what the name suggests – a small dairy shop on the corner. They do have a handful of picnic tables for outside eating, but many people get their order and go back to their cars to eat. Even though the building has been around for a long time, nothing is in disrepair and they seem very clean and sanitary.

This is truly some of the best ice cream in the area. We had three adults and one child in our party. I got their special flavor of the week, coffee soft serve, and it was really good. I did think the coffee flavor could have been turned up a bit more, but that is probably a preference thing, as many would probably feel they nailed the flavor just right. The soft serve is so creamy. I got a medium, but you would have thought it was an XL.

Robbie got the rootbeer float. I absolutely despise the taste of rootbeer, so I did not sample this at all, but she said it was perfectly nostalgic. Floats in general have never been my thing so I can’t relate to this, but many people love that nostalgic feeling they get when they take that first sip. Not only did they give her an obscene amount of vanilla ice cream, but they gave her an entire can of rootbeer so she could add more if needed. Another family member got the brookie sundae, which was covered in brownie bites, cookie bites, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry, all on a bed of another ridiculous pile of vanilla ice cream. She was barely able to make a dent in it because it was so big, so I would recommend sharing an item like this with someone else.

Lastly, the most picky eater of the bunch, our little one was hoping for cotton candy ice cream, but unfortunately they did not have that flavor. She settled for a cup of chocolate and vanilla twist that she absolutely housed on the ride back home. Anytime she eats an entire item, I know it is very good, as even treats and other sweet snacks are hit or miss with her.
