Last week, I got to sample some of the brand new weekend brunch items on Rumsey Tavern’s menu.  This spot is quintessential Shepherdstown – a perfect place to watch the game, sit by the firepit and enjoy the outdoors, and get high quality food and drinks.  As a Shepherd alum, I always feel at home when I’m at Rumsey Tavern, so I’m so glad they are offering a new way to get foodies in the door.  Let’s check out the menu!

Price 💲💲out of 5

The prices for the weekend brunch are extremely reasonable.  Dishes range from $15-$18, with smaller items costing less.  These dishes are more than enough to feed one person, so just a couple dishes to share amongst friends would fill everyone up!  They also have reasonably priced drinks (such as the mimosa flight), so you can have a quality experience without breaking the bank.

I absolutely love everything about Rumsey Tavern.  Shepherdstown has a special place in my heart because I spent six years going to school there.  I love how much support Rumsey Tavern provides for Shepherd University.  Not only do they have great spirit, but this is such a relaxing spot to watch the game or sit outside by the firepit.  Because Rumsey Tavern is in the old Clarion, they have the ability to offer a wide range of areas for guests to enjoy a meal.  Whether you sit outside by the firepit, inside at the bar, or in one of the party rooms, the vibes are great no matter where you are.

Food 🥩🥩🥩🥩 out of 5

Everyone’s favorite section – the food!  We got to try three specialty items on their brunch menu (full disclosure, we also got the mimosa flight, but I did not partake in that).  First, we tried the crab and lobster deviled eggs.  These eggs had a very strong seafood flavor, so if you are not a fan of seafood, you will not like this spin on the traditional Easter fare.  I love seafood, so I loved the brininess of the eggs, but I do feel like they were overseasoned.  All I could taste after that initial burst of brininess from the crab and lobster was salt.

We also got chicken and waffles, and it was incredible.  The chicken was juicy but also crunchy, while the waffle was a perfect blend of fluffy interior with crispy edges.  Combining the sweet waffle with the savory chicken (and the slight heat from the spice-infused maple syrup) was life-changing.  This was such a great pairing, and while chicken and waffles has become a staple across the country, it is still a new adventure for a lot of foodies.  I would highly recommend this dish to anyone who is looking for that savory and sweet combo.

Lastly, we tried the breakfast burger, and while a simple dish like this is usually an afterthought when you have more exotic dishes like the deviled eggs and chicken and waffles, I feel like the burger stole the show.  Honestly, this is probably the best burger I have had on this Foodies journey.  The beef patty was extremely thick and seasoned, and also incredibly juicy.  The cheese was perfectly melty, and that egg yolk added so much richness and creaminess to every bite.  Overall, I was blown away by this burger and would highly recommend it to any burger lover around.

Experience ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5

Rumsey Tavern is always a great experience, and now that they have weekend brunch, there are more ways that you can enjoy this local establishment.  If you have an attachment to Shepherd or Shepherdstown, or just want a casual spot that has incredible food, I would highly recommend trying out Rumsey Tavern this weekend for their brand new brunch menu!  Tell you the Foodies team sent you.
