The Foodies team took a trip to the White Horse Tavern to not only try a spot we had never been to, but to celebrate the birthdays of two of the admins.  The whole family went out to try their offerings, along with their Jefferson County Restaurant Week specials.  Overall, was pleased with the options we chose, as we tried a handful of different items and just shared them.

Price 💲💲💲out of 5

The pricing at The White Horse Tavern is in line with what you would expect at a restaurant attached to a hotel.  Pricing is a bit elevated, but not drastically.  We ordered a burger flight, bacon cheese fries, french onion soup, a kid’s meal with ice cream, multiple drinks, and even got a take home dish for another family member, and our bill came out to about $90 (this also included a built-in tip for a large party).  There are some more expensive dishes on the menu, like steak and seafood options, so the price range can fluctuate based on what you order.

Ambience 🧑‍🍳🧑‍🍳🧑‍🍳 out of 5

The White Horse Tavern is located inside the Clarion off of 340 between Charles Town and Harper’s Ferry.  Like many restaurants attached to hotels, there isn’t a ton of character or quirkiness that makes the restaurant stand out.  It does have a decent sized bar, as well as plenty of seating.  It wasn’t very busy when we were there, so we were able to have good conversation and just relax.  All in all, a solid place to get a meal or to grab a drink.

Food 🥩🥩🥩 out of 5

My family and I were satisfied with everything we ate at The White Horse Tavern.  To start, we got the Restaurant Week special, which was a burger flight that included the Hangover Burger (bacon and fried egg), the Bacon Jam (provolone and bacon jam), and the Toasted Pickle (fried dill pickle chips, cheddar, jalapeno ranch).  Out of the three, the Toasted Pickle was by far my favorite.  This was an exceptional slider, as I love the flavor of pickles and the kick from the jalapeño ranch was actually pretty intense.

I ALWAYS order French Onion soup wherever I go as it is my absolute favorite soup.  I have had bowls of it all over the country, and I would say that this bowl was very solid.  Not the best I have ever had, but it had plenty of cheese, a very soft baguette, hearty, piping hot beef broth, and sweet onions with the perfect silky texture.  It was a great way to start out my meal.

We also had to try a shareable, so we got the loaded cheese fries with bacon.  They came with a side of ranch and were very indulgent.  They had plenty of cheese and bacon, and the fries were cooked perfectly.

Experience ⭐⭐⭐ out of 5

Overall, we enjoyed our experience at The White Horse Tavern.  There are some things that could be improved upon.  One of our party had mashed potatoes that were really cold, and with it being pretty empty, I would have hoped to have had a little bit more attentive service.  I really loved the food we chose though, so I would love to come back and try some additional dishes in the future.  Hopefully they keep those Restaurant Week sliders on the menu!
