Last weekend, for a family birthday, we went to Jimmy Joy’s Log Cabin between Hagerstown and Hancock for a seafood feast. Being that we are hours away from the beach, there aren’t a ton of great seafood options in this area. Jimmy Joy’s is one of our favorites because of their food, customer service, and overall ambience of the restaurant.

Seafood restaurants are going to be expensive. I’m not sure if it is because we now view seafood as a luxury, or if it is more expensive to harvest sea creatures over land creatures, but going into it, you know you are going to pay quite a bit for seafood. While our bill did end up well over $100, we feel we got a ton of value there, as both Robbie and my daughter got crab legs. For about a pound and half of crab legs, it came out to $35-$45 depending on if you got sides with it. For comparison, I got the fried haddock meal, and my massive piece of fish and two sides were only about $17.

Jimmy Joy’s has so much personality and truly feels like a small-town mom and pop with big time food. They have multiple bars, multiple sectioned-off dining areas, and they even have an extra area where live entertainment comes in to play. I was so ready to give the ambience a perfect five stars, but the bathroom situation there is not ideal. There are not enough bathroom stalls for the amount of people that can be there on a busy Friday or Saturday night, which can be frustrating.

Like I said, the food was really good. The crab legs were meaty and a very good size. Both Robbie and Ray ate every ounce of their crab leg meat. My fried fish was massive and extremely crispy. It was beer battered, so there was thick breading on it. It came out piping hot and never once got soggy or too oily.

We also had a handful of sides. My broccoli was solid, and the deviled egg pasta salad was a very unique dish. However, it didn’t blow me away like I was hoping for, but it was still pretty good. Robbie didn’t like her mashed potatoes and gravy, but I tried them and thought they were solid. Very chunky though, so if you like smooth, creamy potatoes I would not order these. Lastly, Jimmy Joy’s has a ton of specials. Friday was all you can eat blue crabs, and we had a family member take advantage of that. They also do all you can eat crab legs, and a couple other daily specials as well.

If you are in the mood for seafood, I would absolutely recommend you take the 45 minute drive out to Jimmy Joy’s. It is extremely easy to get there, as you just need to take 81 up to Hagerstown and then stay on 70 West for a little before getting off right where the restaurant is located. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting a reservation, though, as they get very busy in the evening. Can’t wait to go back and splurge a bit and get all you can eat crab legs!
