The Foodies crew took an adventure to Berkeley Springs to take in the winter festivities of the area, and this past weekend we shared a family dinner at The Country Inn at Berkeley Springs. We love this place, and have been multiple times. With an extensive menu and cozy atmosphere, this is a top spot to eat at when you come into the Berkeley Springs area.

Even though the food is high quality all around, the prices are very reasonable for what you are going to get. Many of the appetizers are around $10 – $12, and the sandwiches average around $15. The entrees vary depending on what protein is in the dish, and they also have daily specials.

The Country Inn is such a quaint spot nestled in historic Berkeley Springs. It doubles as a hotel and restaurant, and it has a rustic, historical town vibe. When you first walk in, you will see the front desk for the hotel, stairs to some of the rooms, and the bar. In addition, they have a ton of canned goods, like jellies and pickled veggies, for purchase. They also do a phenomenal job of decorating for the holidays, as there is a sleigh sitting in the lobby, and wreaths and a Christmas tree creating holiday cheer throughout the Inn.

I have sampled a handful of dishes from The Country Inn, and everything has been delicious, but I’ll focus on what we had at our most recent visit.
To start, we ordered a couple appetizers. The Bang Bang shrimp are sensational. So crispy, with a really nice tangy sauce. The flash fried spinach that the shrimp lie on is not only edible, but is extremely delicious. It is my favorite appetizer that they have. We also tried the deep fried pierogies, which were very crispy and had the right amount of cheese and potato filling. It was also served with sour cream. Lastly, we got the braided pretzel with beer cheese dip. So flavorful! All of the items had enough to share with others.

I came in knowing what I wanted to eat. Their French onion soup is incredible, and I will get that every single time I go since I love French onion soup. I am picky about my French onion soup, and do not like when a ton of baguette is stuffed inside in lieu of more of the soup. That is not the case here, as they provide a ton of soup, a small layer of baguette, and plenty of melty cheese. It is good to the last drop!

I also had heard people rave about their wings, so I had to try them. I got mine deep fried and naked, with multiple sauces on the side, including sweet Thai chili and a bourbon molasses. The wings were a decent size, fried perfectly, and the Thai chili sauce was so tangy with the right mixture of heat and sweet. I would definitely go back to get more wings and try more sauces.

Berkeley Springs is definitely one of my favorite spots in the Eastern Panhandle. I feel it is so underrated, and the food scene has actually blown me away. We have tried a handful of places up here and everything has been so good. The Country Inn is probably the most well-known restaurant up here, and for good reason. Looking forward to more visits to Berkeley Springs and to The Country Inn!
